Your role in the mission:
The Project Analyst (Cost and EVM Focus) will play a critical role in supporting Type One Energy's mission to revolutionize energy production by managing complex projects within the fusion energy sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing project budgets, cost tracking, and Earned Value Management (EVM) to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
This role requires strong expertise in financial analysis, cost variance reporting, and collaboration with finance teams to provide accurate and actionable insights into project performance. Additionally, the candidate will utilize foundational project management skills, including project scheduling, risk management, and tool configuration, to support overall project success.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in project cost management, EVM methodologies, and financial reporting, with a focus on driving operational efficiency and continuous improvement across multiple projects.
- Project Cost Management: Coordinate budget development, maintain, and monitor project budgets, ensuring accurate cost tracking and forecasting. Collaborate with finance team to align project financials with organizational goals.
- Earned Value Management (EVM): Create, implement, and maintain EVM systems to track project performance, including Planned Value (PV), Earned Value (EV), and Actual Cost (AC). Generate EVM reports to assess project health, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Cost Variance Analysis: Conduct detailed variance analysis to compare actual project costs against budgeted costs. Identify root causes of variances and work with project managers and finance teams to implement corrective measures.
- Project Scheduling: Develop and maintain project schedules using tools such as MS Project or Primavera P6. Ensure schedules align with project budgets and EVM metrics.
- Risk Management Support: Understand risk management processes, assist in maintaining risk registers, and track mitigation plans.
- Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to improve cost management, EVM processes, and overall project management practices. Leverage data-driven insights to optimize project performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance, project managers, and engineering teams to ensure accurate cost tracking, financial reporting, and alignment with project objectives.
- Automation Tools: Leverage Microsoft Power Automate, PowerApps, or similar tools to automate workflows and reporting processes (experience is a plus).
What you’ll need:
The successful candidate must have:
- Project Cost Management: At least 2 years of experience in project cost management, including budget development, cost tracking, and forecasting, preferably in the energy, engineering, or high-technology sector
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Science, Project Management, Data Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, EVP) is a plus.

Earned Value Management (EVM): Proven experience in creating and managing EVM systems, including calculating and reporting key EVM metrics (e.g., CPI, SPI, EAC, ETC). Familiarity with EVM tools and software is a plus.

Financial Analysis: Understanding of financial concepts and the ability to perform variance analysis, cost forecasting, and financial reporting. Experience working with finance teams is a plus.

Project Scheduling: Experience developing and maintaining project schedules using tools such as MS Project or Primavera P6. Ability to align schedules with project budgets and EVM metrics.

Risk Management: Understanding of risk management processes, with the ability to support risk tracking and mitigation plan updates.

Advanced Excel: Expertise in Excel for financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization.

Automation Tools: Experience with Microsoft Power Automate, PowerApps, or workflow automation is a plus.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders. Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
