Your role in the mission:
Type One Energy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Fuel Cycle Scientist Scientist to lead in developing, designing, and optimizing tritium processing, storage, distribution and control systems in support of Type One Energy’s high-field stellarator designs and radiation safety case supporting the licensing application.
Ideally the candidate will have experience ranging from fundamental tritium science to practical tritium operations, including a background in the design of tritium, hydrogen, or related systems. You will play a vital role in the development of our Tritium Fuel Cycle program in support of both a Fusion Pilot Plant and future Stellarator Power Plant systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and implement cutting-edge tritium system processes in order to meet tritium fuel cycle sustainability objectives.
- Conduct comprehensive process simulations and modelling to assess the efficiency, feasibility, and safety of various tritium fuel cycle system components.
- Analyze data and perform in-depth research to identify areas for process improvement and optimization, aiming for enhanced efficiency and tritium control.
- Develop and utilize computational solutions to analyze tritium transport, trapping and release and their impact on fuel cycle feasibility, safety, and management of waste streams.
- Lead the technical direction of tritium related projects, including the design of experiments to validate process performance, troubleshoot operational challenges, and refine process parameters.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications to disseminate research findings and contribute to the scientific community.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of Scientists, Engineers, and Technicians to foster a collaborative environment and integrate tritium considerations into product development.
- Collaborate with external partners, including academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners, to explore potential collaborations and stay at the forefront of fusion technologies.
- Support tritium related regulatory activities for Type One Fusion systems, including interfacing with state, federal, and international regulatory bodies. This includes supporting radiation safety case development for licensing application and license compliance activities
- Assist with the preparation of protocols and procedures for the safe handling of tritium.
- Be accountable for the quality and accuracy of work.
- Provide transparent and realistic feedback on timelines, resource requirements, and issues to enable the timeline completion of assigned duties.
What you’ll need:
- Strong educational background in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
- Fundamental understanding of first principles for hydrogen/tritium physics and chemical/gaseous processing.
- In-depth knowledge of tritium systems in one or more areas: catalysis, reactor operation design, metal hydride storage materials, and/or tritium permeation barriers. Experience with getter beds, cryogenic separation of gasses, vacuum systems, gloveboxes or hydrogen absorption materials is also a plus.
- Proficiency in tritium transport (TMAP, FESTIM, COMSOL) and/or process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS), as well as other relevant software. Experience in practical high-fidelity tritium transport simulation informing design, management and operation procedures is a plus but not required.
- General knowledge of various nuclear codes and standards, as well as best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, troubleshoot technical challenges, and develop innovative solutions.
- Attention to detail in both programming and data analysis.
We offer:
In addition to a basic salary and yearly bonus, you will also get…
